About the Role
What if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

We are seeking a Roads Carbon Management Engineer based out of any of our UK offices, preferably London. You will require strong technical capability in civil infrastructure with leadership in carbon assessment and management aligned with PAS 2080 Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure standard. You will need both strong communicative skills and an aptitude for technical work that can be applied in new and innovative areas.

In this role, you will lead and support carbon management inputs for highways and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across all stages of design. Acting as the Carbon Lead on projects, you will embed PAS 2080 principles, coordinate low-carbon solutions with clients, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contractors and suppliers, and challenge designs to identify opportunities for carbon reduction and climate resilience.

You will develop and apply carbon assessment methodologies, governance and tools, advise clients on low-carbon innovation and climate-resilient opportunities, and identify and implement innovative processes and materials for projects. You will contribute Net Zero inputs into strategic pursuits and proposals, including coordinating and preparing technical and commercial responses.

Additionally, you will help build WSP’s Net Zero process, fostering a collaborative, 'carbon conscious' culture across our Roads and wider Transport & Infrastructure teams. Supporting technical development and upskilling of colleagues, including technical leadership and assurance of deliverables, will be key responsibilities. You will also contribute to continual improvement and business development within the Roads Net Zero team and National Carbon management activities, and report achieved carbon reductions back to clients through internal WSP carbon processes.

Our Roads Net Zero team sits within our wider Roads group and guides clients and colleagues through transport and infrastructure decarbonisation, embedding carbon thinking at the heart of our projects. We deliver carbon assessment and management for transport infrastructure projects; quantifying and assessing carbon to inform strategies and plans, provide carbon management reporting and develop carbon management policies and advice for clients.

Since its inception three years ago, our Transport Net Zero team has led industry change—authoring the Department for Transport’s Quantifiable Carbon Reduction guidance; working with Sub-National Transport Bodies to develop baseline emissions models and support regional decarbonisation strategies; advising local authority clients; and developing carbon management policies for major transport programmes and organisations.

As one of the largest suppliers of professional services to various clients, we influence change through client engagement and invest heavily in R&D to drive innovation across decarbonisation and climate resilience. Our current frameworks and strategic partnerships spanning National Highways (SDF), National Grid (GGP) work and other frameworks provide a strong platform for impact and growth.

Joining the team at this critical time for climate action presents a great opportunity to influence transport policies, shape WSP’s and our clients’ decarbonisation approaches, and play a meaningful role on the national pathway to net zero.
