About the Role
Joining Sainsbury's Tech means becoming part of an inclusive and driven team passionate about creating innovative solutions. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and coach talented engineering teams, driving the delivery of impactful integration solutions that enhance efficiency and performance across the business. You will shape a world-class engineering function and contribute to developing cutting-edge processes and technologies.

In this role, you will be pivotal in the strategic direction of common capabilities for Engineering Teams, leading efforts to improve integration engineering efficiencies through automation. You will evolve reusable build kits, common components, and platform services that standardise how integrations are built, deployed, and operated across the organisation. This reduces repeated engineering effort, provides consistency, and accelerates delivery, security, and maintainability.

Your responsibilities include ensuring availability, performance, and continuous improvement of common integration capabilities such as reusable build kits, deployment automation, and built-in observability. You will develop and support reusable integration patterns, connectors, and components that enable secure, reliable data flows with less bespoke code.

You will line manage a multi-skilled engineering team, providing resources and skills to build, support, and operate a production-grade integration platform while promoting adoption across engineering domains. Mentoring, coaching, recruiting diverse talent, and fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and respect are key aspects of your role.

Working closely with Product Managers and Engineers, you will define the vision and technical direction, shape the roadmap based on customer feedback and emerging needs, and manage multiple deliveries with end-to-end ownership including change and service management. Driving new feature development, promoting best engineering practices, and advocating agile and lean delivery methodologies are essential.

You will also manage initiative-level budgets, ensure adherence to processes and standards, and demonstrate behaviours that contribute to a culture of excellence and inclusivity.

At Sainsbury's, you will experience a modern software engineering environment with significant investment in standards and principles such as Agile, Scrum, and XP. Exciting opportunities span from AI to reusable technology, all within a supportive and inspiring environment that values collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity.
