Hours

Salary

About the Role
This role seeks a self-motivated candidate to manage engineering projects end-to-end across Thames Water’s operational sites and estate. You will manage all aspects of each CAPEX project, including initial scoping, competitive tendering, contractor procurement, site setup and inductions, health and safety inspections, commissioning, training, and handover to operations teams. The internal job title is ‘Project Engineer’ within the Capital Maintenance Project Team.

You will manage and deliver a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical, and ICA projects, typically valued between £100,000 and £1 million per project. You will be individually responsible for multiple live projects, with additional projects in scoping and tendering phases. The role involves developing innovative and modern solutions to operational problems, working closely with operations teams and contractors to scope, define, and cost cost-effective and low-risk solutions.

You will oversee a zero-compromise health and safety policy, undertake monthly audits, and ensure construction aligns with in-house policies, wider industry standards, and CDM regulations. Collaboration with delivery partners and contractors is essential to ensure timely scheme delivery. You will maintain compliance with Asset Standards, British and International Standards, and professional codes of conduct.

Financial forecasting and reporting on the value of work done (VOWD) for all live projects is required. You will draft, vet, and approve pre-construction information, project programs, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), and construction phase plans (CPP). Additionally, you will oversee commissioning, training, and handover of completed projects, ensuring all completion documents such as test certificates, operation and maintenance manuals, health and safety files, and as-constructed drawings are available and handed over to operations teams.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in Construction or Engineering Project Management is essential. Knowledge of Health and Safety standards related to construction works, including CDM, is required, though additional training will be provided.

About you
You should be self-motivated, driven, and able to work with minimum supervision. The ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders simultaneously, including internal colleagues, site employees, and external contractors, is vital. You must demonstrate initiative and deliver high-quality work consistently.

Qualifications
Preferably have a background in Engineering such as Civil or Mechanical Engineering. Formal qualifications in these sectors are strongly encouraged, ideally at least a BTEC/HND in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience. Knowledge of Clean Water Processing and/or Wastewater treatment is advantageous.
