About the Role
Could you change a child's life? At Bromley Council, we're looking for caring, resilient and committed people to become foster carers for local children and young people who need a safe, stable and nurturing home. Fostering is a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference to a child's future. Whether you're supporting a young child, a teenager, siblings or a child with additional needs, you can help provide the stability, encouragement and care they need to thrive.
As a foster carer, you'll play a key role in helping children feel safe, build confidence, achieve at school and develop positive relationships, all while being supported by an experienced team of professionals. Fostering can be temporary or long-term, depending on a child's needs.
When you foster with Bromley Council, you're helping local children stay connected to their schools, friends and communities wherever possible. By becoming a foster carer with Bromley Council, you'll be part of a supportive and experienced fostering community. We offer comprehensive training before and throughout your fostering journey, a weekly fostering allowance with payment levels dependent on the type of care and support you provide, dedicated support from a supervising social worker, access to specialist therapeutic and educational support, 24-hour support and guidance, foster carer support groups and networking opportunities, and ongoing learning and development opportunities.
Specialist Opportunity: Encompass Therapeutic Fostering
We are also recruiting for Encompass Therapeutic Fostering, Bromley's specialist fostering service for children and young people with more complex needs, including those moving from residential care into a family setting. Encompass follows a therapeutic, family-based approach and provides enhanced training, tailored support and a dedicated professional network around both the child and fostering household. This opportunity may be particularly suitable for experienced foster carers or individuals with relevant professional or lived experience in childcare, education, youth work, health or social care.
Experience
No formal qualifications or previous fostering experience required. Experience in childcare, education, youth work, health or social care is beneficial for specialist fostering roles.
About you
You should be caring, resilient and committed with the time, patience and dedication to support a child or young person. We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life. You may be single, married, retired, employed, self-employed, a homeowner or renting your home.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required to become a foster carer. You must be aged 21 or over, have a spare bedroom, and be able to provide a safe and supportive home.
