About the Role
Within the Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt Directorate (CFCD), you will play a key role in reducing fraud, error, and debt to protect public funds. As a Fraud Officer, you will conduct thorough interviews by phone or in person, scrutinise evidence closely, and take corrective action on benefit awards where necessary. You will ensure compliance with DWP policies and operational procedures while maintaining high quality standards.
You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to promote fraud awareness and manage cases effectively, gathering and verifying information to support accurate benefit reassessments and overpayment calculations.
This role involves handling sensitive information with care, maintaining accurate records, and prioritising workload in a fast-paced environment. Occasional travel and overnight stays will be required.
We offer opportunities for learning, career progression, and a healthy work-life balance while making a real impact in protecting public resources.

Experience
Experience in conducting interviews, reviewing detailed evidence, and managing cases is desirable. Ability to handle sensitive situations and work effectively both independently and as part of a team is essential.

About you
You will have strong communication and leadership skills, excellent organisational and decision-making abilities, and confidence in presenting information professionally to diverse audiences. Attention to detail is critical, especially in identifying discrepancies or inconsistencies in evidence. You should demonstrate energy, positivity, adaptability, and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, external partners, and vulnerable individuals. Willingness to travel as required is necessary.

Qualifications
There are no specific qualification requirements; however, candidates holding a level 3 qualification (2 A levels or equivalent) are encouraged to bring certificates to the interview if available.
