About the Role
Southwark is one of London’s most diverse and innovative boroughs. The council operates in a complex political, social and economic environment, making decisions that impact residents, communities, partners and local services daily. The democratic and political support functions are vital in ensuring elected members are well supported, briefed and able to perform their roles effectively. This includes supporting meetings, external communications, correspondence, policy work, research and engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

We are seeking a Group Support Officer to join the Green Group Office, providing practical, organised and politically sensitive support to the Leader of the Council, Executive and the entire Green Group of Councillors. This is a varied support role reporting to the Political Officer, working closely with elected members and council colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Group Office and effective support across a range of priorities.

Key responsibilities include managing external communications, social media, correspondence, briefings, schedules, records and other day-to-day activities that support the Group’s work. You will organise meetings, prepare papers, take minutes, coordinate follow-up actions and facilitate the flow of information between members, officers and external contacts.

This role requires working in a fast-paced political environment where priorities can change quickly, information can be sensitive, and sound judgement is essential. You will need to be organised, discreet and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Please note this is a 4 year fixed term contract.

About you
You will be organised, thoughtful and confident working in a political or public sector environment. Flexibility, discretion and initiative are essential. You must be comfortable handling confidential information and engaging with people at various levels. Strong research skills and the ability to interpret information into clear written materials are also important.
