We are seeking to appoint several talented, enthusiastic and committed mid-career hydrogeologists/modellers to support a range of projects undertaken by the Catchment Science team within our Sustainable Water Management Consulting group.
Your work will be varied and challenging and is likely to include the following:
- Lead high impact groundwater modelling work, guiding the delivery of regional and catchment-scale groundwater studies that support regulatory, infrastructure and environmental clients.
- Take ownership of projects with responsibility for project management, financial control and quality assurance, allowing you to shape outcomes and build strong client relationships.
- Develop and mentor others by supporting the growth of junior colleagues, with the opportunity for people management responsibilities as your role progresses.
- Collaborate across a multidisciplinary network working with hydrologists, environmental specialists, modellers and engineering teams to deliver integrated water resources solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Technical delivery of hydrogeology and water resources projects, with emphasis on regional groundwater modelling.
- Managing projects including financial oversight, change control and quality assurance.
- Mentoring, supervising and developing junior team members.
- Working with the Hydrogeology and Groundwater Services Lead to define scopes and approaches.
- Producing high quality client and public facing deliverables that communicate complex data clearly.
- Contributing to bid proposals and helping develop innovative solutions for clients.
- Working collaboratively with other sectors and disciplines to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Promoting a safety first culture in line with WSP policies.
Your Team
Our Catchment Science team works across a wide spectrum of services covering water resources and security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydroecology and hydrogeology. We provide high quality technical services and advice to a wide range of high-profile customers in the UK and overseas, including government departments and agencies, the water industry, and various industrial sectors such as power, transport, nuclear, mining, commercial and oil and gas.
Demand for our skills has grown significantly during AMP7 and is forecast to increase further during AMP8, driven by our long-running framework for groundwater modelling support to the Environment Agency in East Anglia. To meet this demand, we are recruiting additional Senior and Principal level technical and Project Management skills.

Experience
- Groundwater and Water Resources modelling to support water resource estimation and management, as well as environmental impact assessment.
- Strong understanding of UK hydrogeology and the environmental and regulatory framework of UK water management.
- Proven project management skills, with experience managing projects from start to finish.
- Track record of leading and winning work, with a sound understanding of client needs, opportunities and challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels.
- Strong commercial awareness, including identifying and developing business opportunities and preparing winning proposals.
- Excellent report-writing, technical review, numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail and enjoyment in solving challenging hydrogeological and hydrological problems.

Qualifications
- MSc Hydrogeology combined with a BSc degree in a related discipline (e.g. geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science).
- You will have gained, or be working towards, chartership with a relevant professional body.
