
Location
Princess Royal University Hospital, London with some working from Victim Support office in Old Street and home working.
Hours
Full Time - 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with some flexibility; flexible working patterns can be discussed.
Salary
Qualified: £32,383 per annum (includes £29,583 plus £2,800 London Weighting Allowance)
Unqualified: £30,552 per annum (includes £27,752 plus £2,800 London Weighting Allowance)
About the Role
As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) you will provide proactive, high-quality frontline support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse within a hospital setting. You will conduct ongoing risk assessments, deliver individual safety planning, trauma-informed support, guidance, information, and advocacy. Your role will enable victims to access necessary services following abuse and trauma. You may work within a Hospital Trust's Safeguarding Team supporting both patients and staff affected by domestic abuse. Responsibilities include making initial contact with victims, explaining available services, assessing impact, receiving referrals, and providing ongoing support and case management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing risks and needs using evidence-based checklists
- Focusing on high-risk cases with short to medium-term crisis intervention
- Assisting victims in accessing safety services
- Delivering tailored support and information
- Understanding legal frameworks protecting children and vulnerable adults
- Providing advocacy on legal, housing, health, and financial options
- Empowering clients to recognize domestic abuse dynamics
- Participating in Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC)
- Working collaboratively to deliver respectful, dignified, and sensitive services
- Maintaining accurate and confidential case records
- Complying with data protection laws and organisational policies
- Staying updated with procedures, policies, and professional codes
Experience
Experience working in statutory, voluntary, or multi-agency settings supporting victims or vulnerable people is essential. Knowledge of legal remedies for domestic abuse victims and experience working with drug, alcohol, and mental health issues is desirable. Understanding of benefits, housing, and homelessness is beneficial.
