About the Role
As an Independent Prescriber within the NHS, you will provide high quality service delivery to people who use substances and their significant others. You will contribute to the overall performance of designated services to ensure contractual output targets and high clinical standards are met. Your role includes delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based clinical interventions, including prescribing, within the designated services and partnership agencies as required by service configuration.
Key duties include working as a registered healthcare professional prescriber, delivering health and wellbeing interventions, assisting in the development of systems and pathways that promote holistic service delivery (e.g., criminal justice, blood borne viruses), and ensuring clinical interventions comply with legislation, best practice guidance, professional and CQC standards. You will manage clinical care appropriately, encourage service users to access education, employment, and recovery support activities, and contribute to effective use of clinical resources.
Additionally, you will promote and support organisational interfaces with commissioners, suppliers, primary and secondary care services, and assist with implementation of alert responses related to medicines, drugs, devices, and infection control. You will participate in audits, monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives, contribute to incident and complaint management, and provide competency assessment and training for staff, students, and volunteers.
Continuing professional development is essential to maintain competence and meet revalidation requirements. You will provide advice and guidance on clinical and prescribing issues to colleagues and partner agencies, support a one team approach alongside management, and where relevant, provide clinical or line management supervision and facilitate meetings or training events.
This role requires working in line with all relevant legislation, best practice, professional and organisational standards, and contributing positively to the wider organisation and team objectives.
