Hours
Full Time - Standard office hours with a requirement to work out of normal office hours when change restrictions require and to cover incident support.

Salary
£44,447 to £52,442 per annum. The maximum salary for the grade is £46,547, with a Digital Allowance of up to £5,895 per annum available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, non-pensionable, and temporary, subject to annual review.

About the Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer specialising in Network Automation, you will be a skilled practitioner and role model in automation solutions. You will ensure best practices are adhered to across the department and guide teams in delivering quality automated infrastructure products. You will assist in designing infrastructure services in collaboration with Architecture and Engineering principles and take ongoing responsibility for the full range of products that make up Network Services.

Working closely with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and customers, you will ensure the operational stability, robustness, resilience, availability, and quality of DWP Networks. You will actively manage the work backlog, develop reliability improvements, and lead initiatives to automate low-value tasks while balancing project delivery demands.

The role involves influencing and developing the network automation culture as the team increases automation capabilities and transitions to new ways of working. You will help modernise Network Services applications and security posture, delivering to customers with speed and consistency.

You will work alongside engineers specialising in cloud and on-premise environments and contribute early to automation and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities span across products and services with different delivery and improvement models, including formal project management, ITIL, and agile methodologies.

Your duties will include:
- Leading and improving the work backlog, driving reliability enhancements, and leading automation initiatives to free up time for critical tasks.
- Designing secure, high-availability hybrid cloud connectivity solutions across AWS, Azure, and OCI.
- Implementing complex technical solutions, managing dependencies and risks, and ensuring successful project delivery.
- Building strong relationships across engineering teams and leading continuous feedback processes related to services and ways of working.

Experience
- Demonstrable knowledge of implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to automate build, integration, and deployment across all environments, including efficient use of fragments/includes.
- Proven ability to utilize observability tools (logs, metrics, tracing) and automated testing to monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure product viability in production.
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary Agile teams, implementing DevOps practices, showing an improvement mindset, and proactively sharing technical knowledge.
- Experience using Unix/Linux/Windows in support and/or development environments, including scripting languages.
- Demonstrable experience provisioning, deploying, and configuring cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or OCI) using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including reusable modules and design patterns.
