About the Role
Do you want to work collaboratively designing modern IT architecture for some of the largest digital transformations in Europe? Do you want to help support millions of claimants by designing user-friendly digital services? This role within the Data Insights and Analytics area of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) offers the opportunity to lead the architecture of data-focused products and services in a complex digital environment.

The primary focus is the DWP Management Information (MI) service, providing strategic capability for MI reporting and visualisations across the entire Department, serving around 20,000 users from operational managers to the Secretary of State.

As a Lead Technical Architect (Solutions), you will lead at the highest level, ensuring agreed strategy is followed, networking with senior stakeholders, proactively seeking digital transformation opportunities, supporting multiple teams, and inspiring other architects. You will be responsible for governance, solving complex issues, delivering architecture design, managing a small team of Technical Architects, and ensuring architecture artefacts meet quality standards and governance requirements.

You will work collaboratively with engineers, policy, legal, and other Digital colleagues, including cross-government teams, to create solution designs that meet user needs for MI and Analytics across DWP.

Experience
- Architecture design across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments involving networking, security, presentation, middleware, database and integration aspects.
- Architecture design informed by principles, patterns, technical radars, practices and standards.
- Working with project delivery teams in agile, waterfall and hybrid environments throughout the lifecycle, from concept to go-live.
- Translating business requirements into technical solutions with traceability demonstrated to stakeholders.
- Using architecture modelling techniques and tools to devise and represent solutions.
- Data integration knowledge including disparate sources (ERP, CRM, IoT), real-time data pipelines and batch processing.
- Analytics and reporting experience with data warehousing, data lakes, BI and analytics technologies (e.g. Power BI), design patterns, tools and best practice.

Confident and experienced in leading architecture design in complex digital environments. Skilled at networking and communicating with senior stakeholders, inspiring teams, and driving digital transformation. Able to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality architecture artefacts on time. Collaborative and supportive of cross-functional teams and governance processes.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are mandated, but demonstrable expertise in technical architecture, data integration, analytics, and leadership within IT architecture is essential. Experience with government or large-scale digital transformation programmes is advantageous.
