About the Role
The Insurance Administrator will support the day-to-day functioning of the Insurance Team within the London Borough of Sutton. Key duties include allocating and labelling emails and post to claim files, processing payments, posting letters, and providing general administrative support to meet the needs of the team. The role operates within a modern and flexible working environment supported by IT infrastructure including Google Chromebooks and Google Apps, with opportunities for flexible and agile working arrangements. The Council embraces new ways of working through its Flexible Working - Smarter Working Scheme, promoting a healthy work-life balance and allowing staff to work from various locations rather than being office-based five days a week.

About the Borough
The London Borough of Sutton is located less than 30 minutes by train from Central London, with direct connections to London Victoria and London Bridge. Sutton offers award-winning parks and open spaces, low crime rates, affordable housing, and excellent schools. The borough is committed to investing in the health, wellbeing, and education of its residents, as outlined in the “Ambitious for Sutton” corporate plan. Sutton is home to the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research and is developing the London Cancer Hub, a world-leading life-science district specializing in cancer research and treatment. This vision is expected to create around 13,000 jobs and contribute £1.2 billion annually to the UK economy. Sutton is focused on regeneration, new homes and schools, and supporting vulnerable groups to maintain independence while balancing support and independent living.

About the Service and Team
The insurance service provides coverage through a combination of self-insurance and external catastrophe insurance. It handles in-house claims for all claims up to the policy excess, with most losses falling outside the excess and self-insured by the Council’s insurance fund.

Our Offer to You
We are committed to nurturing talent and supporting your career growth in a friendly, collaborative environment. Your ideas and contributions are encouraged and supported by a dynamic and experienced management team. Benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement of 26-32 days plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time), enhanced family leave options, two volunteering days per year, flexible and agile working arrangements, a learning and development portal, discounts at local shops and leisure centres, interest-free season ticket loans, Local Government Pension Scheme membership, bicycle loan and cycle to work schemes, electric vehicle leasing, and confidential health, wellbeing, and counselling support.

Requirements

Experience
Previous experience in insurance administration or a similar administrative role is desirable but not explicitly stated. The role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to support a busy team effectively.

About you
You should be motivated, organised, and able to work collaboratively within a team. A willingness to embrace new ways of working and contribute ideas to improve processes is essential. You should value transparency and demonstrate the Council’s PRIDE values throughout the application and interview process.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications are not detailed; however, a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to use IT systems such as Google Apps are important. The Council values authenticity and looks for candidates who can clearly demonstrate their own skills, experience, and motivation for the role.
