About the Role
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. We are seeking an Interaction Designer to join the Digital Delivery team, which is redesigning and rebuilding Courts and Tribunal services around user needs to ensure accessibility, ease of use, and digital enablement where appropriate.

As an Interaction Designer, you will work closely with service and content designers, user researchers, and analysts to deliver accessible, inclusive, and user-centred services. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining prototypes and owning the design of interactions throughout the user journey, using evidence, data, and research to inform your decisions.

Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading interaction quality within projects or services as the interaction lead.
- Designing optimal user interactions across multiple channels, devices, browsers, and technologies based on user research insights.
- Managing and mentoring other interaction designers to improve quality and consistency.
- Developing and contributing to interaction design strategies, including design systems.
- Creating and maintaining prototypes to test designs with users.
- Initiating design improvements and influencing decisions using data and evidence.
- Championing accessibility and inclusion, ensuring designs meet WCAG 2.2 standards.
- Scoping, creating, and improving user-centred interactions based on feedback and research.
- Engaging with HMCTS and cross-government interaction design communities.

You will collaborate with frontline staff to understand user pain points and design consistent solutions, working in a fast-paced, evolving environment using an iterative approach to enable rapid delivery.

You will also build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders including service teams, operational staff, policy teams, and judicial representatives, influencing decisions and removing blockers while focusing on user needs.

Regular collaboration with teams such as User Research and Performance Analysis, Service and Content Design, Insight, and Accessibility and Inclusion will be essential to effectively advocate for users.

Experience
- Designing interactions for end-to-end services from concept to delivery, ensuring quality and accessibility.
- Using a variety of prototyping methods, including coding prototypes.
