About the Role
HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is seeking a Legal Officer to play a pivotal role in delivering justice within the First-tier Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber (IAC) team. Based in a Regional Hearing Centre, you will support the effective administration of Tribunals business on a national scale by undertaking complex case work and assessment activities to advance caseloads and remove barriers to timely case progression.

Working independently with support from a wider team, you will make informed case management decisions under delegated judicial powers, liaising with key stakeholders and HMCTS colleagues to ensure the effective administration of justice. This is an office-based role requiring attendance at the London office, with occasional travel to other courts.

Experience
A law degree or equivalent technical experience is desirable. Equivalent technical experience is defined as demonstrating transferable decision-making aptitude within a set framework or guidance and previous precedents, under supervision.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are mandatory, but a law degree or equivalent experience is preferred. A willingness to learn and work within the Civil Service framework is essential.

Additional Information
This role requires successful candidates to have the legal right to work in the UK. Sponsorship for Skilled Worker visas is not available unless you have held such a visa continuously since before 22 July 2025. Candidates must undergo a basic criminal record check and baseline personnel security standard checks.
