About the Role
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. We support service users and colleagues in accessing potentially life-changing justice. If you are committed to public service and want to make a difference, this role offers a meaningful career opportunity.

The Data, Analysis & Insight (DAI) team supports senior leaders across HMCTS through reporting, analysis, and insights, enabling strategic, data-driven decisions. This role is based in the Data Management and Engineering unit, reporting to the Head of Data Management. It is pivotal in ensuring data is held, curated, and protected to drive organisational value in line with the HMCTS Data Strategy.

Your responsibilities will include working closely with data engineering, operational, reporting, and analytical colleagues to deliver data objectives; supporting the development and promotion of master and reference data management capabilities; designing and implementing data dictionary and cataloguing tools; driving data quality improvements and producing quality metrics; implementing and monitoring quality assurance and testing frameworks; developing and maintaining effective data models; supporting new technology adoption for robust data management; documenting procedures for data extracts and flows; collaborating on testing and implementation of code and scripts; developing change management processes; providing feedback on data platform operations; ensuring compliance with data governance standards and managing access in line with security policies; and representing HMCTS in meetings with relevant stakeholders.

HMCTS is committed to staff development and offers extensive training opportunities. We provide a supportive working environment with flexible working options, family-friendly policies, generous annual leave, a competitive pension scheme, childcare benefits, and season ticket and bicycle loans.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven data management and data governance skills through experience, training, or continuous professional development.
- Experience working with and developing good data governance approaches, including understanding GDPR principles.
- Experience defining and documenting data workflows, complex data definitions, and business rules.
- Effective communication with operational and analytical teams to define and document data requirements.
- Experience working with data and databases, ideally in a Data Warehouse environment.
- Working knowledge of ETL and data integration processes including data extraction, transformation, and loading.

About You
You should be committed to continuous professional development, knowledgeable about the latest data management technologies and best practices, and able to collaborate effectively across teams. You will be proactive, flexible, and capable of managing prioritisation and communication with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not mandatory, relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure or equivalent experience are desirable. Experience with SQL, data architecture, metadata management, data quality improvements, and DevOps/Git repository processes is advantageous. Familiarity with collaboration tools like MS Teams, Trello, and JIRA is also beneficial.
