About the Role
As an Infrastructure Solution Architect at HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS), you will be a key technical leader responsible for defining and owning the technology design of significant justice system technology components, such as workplace services. You will ensure that technology components form a coherent, scalable, and maintainable whole that meets the evolving needs of the business and wider organisation.
Your role involves leading technical architecture, stakeholder management, data analysis, design, documentation, governance, and enabling efficient technical delivery. You will act as the senior technical authority within the Digital & Technology Services (DTS) Infrastructure workplace and network product team, providing expert guidance to product managers, suppliers, users, and peers.
You will produce architectural artefacts including High-Level and Low-Level Designs, conduct technical reviews, manage technical risks and debt, and lead capacity planning. You will also undertake hands-on technical work such as Microsoft Azure management within the HMCTS tenant, lead troubleshooting of complex escalations, and provide mentoring and coaching.
This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, bridging gaps and advising on technical matters effectively. You will also contribute to procurement activities, recruitment processes, and maintain expert-level skills in relevant technical areas.
The position involves some travel and out-of-hours duties in accordance with organisational policies.
Experience
- Proven ability to lead and design technical solutions that anticipate changing requirements.
- Extensive experience communicating complex technical solutions to senior non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in architecting cloud-based solutions, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, security design principles, network design, and industry best practices.
- Specialist knowledge in print technologies, Windows architecture, and end-user device hardware integration.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical risks, debt, and capacity planning.
- Experience in producing architectural documentation and conducting technical reviews.
- Skilled in mentoring, coaching, and leading technical teams.
- Familiarity with procurement processes and recruitment activities.
