About the Role
Join the award-winning communications team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and support communications with one of the largest and most engaged workforces in the NHS. As Internal Communications Manager, you will be a trusted advisor on all internal communications matters, supporting clinical and corporate teams to deliver clear and timely information to over 23,500 colleagues. You will play a vital role in delivering a wide range of communications activities, including all-staff briefings, priority operational messages, targeted campaigns, and awareness days.
You will work closely with directors and senior managers to ensure organisational priorities are communicated effectively using the most appropriate channels. Acting as a champion for staff, you will ensure their voices are heard and their expertise is incorporated into communications development.
This role requires a creative thinker and superb writer who is calm under pressure and comfortable both developing and delivering communications plans. You will lead the development of internal communications strategies, produce tailored content for diverse audiences, support internal events, campaigns, and awards, and provide expert advice to managers across the Trust.
You will have line management responsibility for two Senior Internal Communications Officers and collaborate closely with colleagues across the Trust and King’s Health Partners to promote shared objectives and values. You will also deputise for senior communications managers as required.
The communications team offers a comprehensive service including internal and external communications, media handling, social media, digital communications, corporate publications, and patient information. The team is dynamic and collaborative, providing excellent opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement.
Key responsibilities include promoting two-way communications, designing innovative campaigns to influence staff behaviour, supporting HR initiatives, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies and brand guidelines.
Experience
- Proven experience using internal communications channels to reach diverse audiences and influence behaviour
- Management experience within a large, high-profile, and complex organisation, including issues management
- Experience creating opportunities and working collaboratively with internal and external partners
- Experience managing budgets
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
About you
You are a strategic thinker with the ability to plan and prioritise competing demands effectively. You can command the confidence of colleagues at all levels, including Trust Directors and Board members. You are skilled at delivering complex, sensitive, or contentious information with professionalism and discretion. You have strong design skills using Adobe Creative Cloud applications or Canva and are always looking for new and better ways to improve communications.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level
- Good understanding of the NHS and its evolving environment
- Knowledge of Wagtail or similar content management systems
