About the Role
The IT Trainer secondment is within the Outpatient Training Team supporting a range of Epic applications including Ambulatory, Ancillaries, and Community. The successful candidate will lead and support Epic applications across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH). You will be responsible for the analysis, design, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of digital training solutions for clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring users adopt new technologies and workflows that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and digital maturity across the Trust.
Main duties include designing and delivering end-user training aligned with clinical workflows and Trust objectives, creating learner-focused materials such as manuals, quick guides, lesson plans, e-learning modules, and assessments. Training will be delivered through a blended model including classroom, virtual, and one-to-one sessions. You will collaborate with Principal Trainers, Application and Configuration teams, operational leads, and stakeholders to ensure training reflects system design and workflow updates. Additional responsibilities include assessing competency, gathering feedback, supporting users, resolving issues, maintaining Learning Management System records, contributing to workflow reviews, leading workshops, and supporting training team operations.

Detailed Responsibilities
Analysis and Design
- Analyse complex user and group digital learning requirements and produce training solutions with measurable objectives.
- Design and update learning modules based on role-based task analysis, business processes, workflows, and adult learning theory.
- Develop scenario-based training guides, lesson plans, competency assessments, quick reference guides, and other learning interventions.
- Maintain and test training environments including sandpits with anonymised patient data.
- Ensure all learner activities are tracked and issues resolved on Learning Management Systems.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure learning interventions meet business needs.
- Conduct shadowing to understand workflows and support future learning requirements.
- Ensure quality assurance of all materials adhering to NHS branding and best practice standards.
Training Delivery
- Deliver learner-focused training using TPMA framework principles through interactive, monitored, and assessed sessions.
- Develop and adjust training plans impacting organisation-wide activities.
- Use effective communication and coaching skills to engage learners and manage group dynamics.
- Provide one-to-one coaching and manage conflict to overcome learning barriers.
- Deliver presentations to large multi-disciplinary groups and design Train the Trainer interventions.
Finance
- Authorise timesheets for bank/agency staff attendance related to training.
eLearning and Live Online
- Design and facilitate synchronous and asynchronous online learning events using platforms such as WebEx and MS Teams.
- Develop bite-sized IT training interventions using eLearning software like Captivate and Articulate.
Pilot and Testing
- Conduct user acceptance testing for system upgrades and training environments.
- Participate in piloting new courses and training approaches.
Evaluation
- Develop evaluation criteria and analyse training effectiveness.
- Resolve complex user queries.
Performance Coaching (Floorwalking)
- Provide performance coaching across Trust sites including clinical and community settings.
- Build professional relationships and support staff during training and live use.
IT Training Team Role
- Promote continuous improvement and support Trust strategies.
- Maintain accurate training records and databases.
- Provide line management and development for junior trainers when required.
- Propose and implement training improvements and assess service provision.
- Manage own time effectively to meet objectives.
Experience
- Strong practical knowledge of the training lifecycle including scope, Training Needs Analysis, and Kirkpatrick evaluation model.
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex multi-level clinical or corporate training within an NHS Trust.
- Experience in effective performance coaching in varied clinical and corporate environments.
- Desirable: Experience developing eLearning interventions.

Qualifications

- Additional specialist knowledge of clinical functionality, workflows, processes, and best practices at GSTT, KCH, or partner organisations.
- Desirable: Epic Credentialled with experience delivering Epic training without supervision from an Epic Accredited trainer.
