About the Role
The Financial Times is a globally recognised news organisation known for its authority, integrity and accuracy. We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Legal Team and Operations Assistant to join our Legal, Compliance and Company Secretariat team. This role offers a broad range of responsibilities combining high-quality administrative support, legal document coordination, and practical assistance with the department's systems, processes and operations. You will work closely with the General Counsel, Legal Operations Manager, and colleagues across Legal, Compliance and Company Secretarial, as well as liaising with the wider FT business. Key responsibilities include providing executive and legal administrative support, managing legal documents, supporting company secretarial and compliance activities, coordinating departmental meetings and communications, administering shared mailboxes, and supporting legal operations such as workflow documentation, technology system administration, supplier management, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a legal support function looking to deepen their exposure to legal operations and technology as part of their career progression.
Experience
- Solid previous experience in an executive assistant, legal assistant, legal administrator, or similar support role within a legal context
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meetings, deadlines and follow-ups with strong organisational skills
- Experience producing professional documents, presentations, correspondence, meeting notes and routine reports
- Confident partner management skills with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse teams and senior stakeholders
- Comfortable handling detailed document review, trackers, meeting logistics, expenses, invoices and supplier information

- Excellent attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills
- Independent problem solver with a creative approach to challenges and a commitment to learning new skills, especially AI systems and legal technology
- Collaborative team player with good judgement and flexibility in a fast-paced environment
- Genuine interest in legal operations, technology, process improvement, change management or automation is highly desirable
Qualifications
- No specific formal qualifications required, but demonstrable experience in legal support and operations is essential
- Familiarity with systems and tools such as Google Workspace, Coupa, Wordsmith (or similar Legal AI products), NetDocuments, ChatGPT, MS Word, DocuSign, Slack, and GEMS is advantageous
