About the Role
The Financial Times (FT) is a globally recognised news organisation known for its authority, integrity and accuracy. The Digital & Print Production Engineer will play a key role in supporting the FT's end-to-end print publishing operation, ensuring newspaper pages, digital editions and associated publishing services are delivered accurately and on time every day. Working within the Digital Print Services team, you will monitor business-critical production systems, coordinate operational activities across multiple stakeholders, investigate and resolve incidents, and maintain the reliability of services supporting the FT's global print operation.
You will contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance workflows, automation, monitoring and documentation, while supporting the evolution of publishing platforms and operational tooling. The role demands operational discipline, effective decision-making under deadline pressure, and close collaboration with Editorial, Advertising, Production, Distribution, Technology teams and external print partners.
The team focuses on operational excellence, reliability, and resilience in print publishing, leveraging automation, data and AI-driven capabilities to improve efficiency and service monitoring. This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of daily print production and driving improvements that enhance reliability and operational efficiency.
Experience
- Supporting business-critical operational or production services.
- Working in deadline-driven operational environments where reliability is essential.
- Investigating and resolving operational incidents and technical issues.
- Using monitoring, alerting or operational support tooling.
- Working with cloud-hosted or distributed systems.
- Collaborating across multiple technical and business teams.
- Working with external suppliers or third-party service providers.
- Experience with print publishing, newspaper production, editorial workflows or media operations is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with AWS, monitoring platforms (Grafana, Splunk, Graphite), publishing systems (Methode, Arkitex, Asura), Adobe Creative Suite or workflow automation technologies is beneficial.
