About the Role
As a Libraries and Archives Apprentice, you will play a vital role in supporting Westminster’s ambition to develop the most inclusive library service in the UK. You will provide inspirational spaces where communities can read, learn, and connect. Your duties will include a wide range of customer-facing tasks such as answering enquiries, offering information, and signposting to promote library facilities. You will help organise an accessible service that encourages customers to develop confidence and skills in reading, learning, and wellbeing. Empowering customers to use self-service equipment, PCs, and other resources will be a key part of your role.
You will also assist in organising, promoting, and facilitating events that connect children and adults with the library and its services. Additionally, you will develop an understanding of library operations including health and safety, IT equipment, financial processes, and routine administrative tasks such as opening and closing the library, membership processes, stock management, timetabling, cash handling, and ordering supplies.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vibrant community service while gaining valuable experience and skills in library and archive services.
Experience
No prior experience is required. Enthusiasm for reading, learning, and community engagement is essential.
About You

A well-developed interest in literature, arts, music, current affairs, and related areas is important. You must be confident using the internet, applications, platforms, computers, and other devices and able to demonstrate their use to customers. As this is a front-line, public-facing role, excellent communication skills, a friendly and approachable manner, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, creative partners, and diverse communities are essential.
You should be committed to your own learning and development and ready to take responsibility for growing your skills and knowledge.
