About the Role
As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the hospital grounds and facilities. Your daily responsibilities will include emptying bins regularly around the grounds and gardens, cutting back shrubbery and hedging, weeding paths, steps, roadways, and other areas, and washing down signs and external surfaces. You will assist with minor electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks such as changing tap washers, toilet siphons, fuses in portable appliance plugs, and replacing lamps, fluorescent tubes, and starters without disconnecting electrical circuits. You will also be involved in maintaining plant rooms, boiler rooms, and workshops by sweeping, disposing of rubbish, and removing redundant equipment. Additional duties include tackling blockages in Trust bathrooms, assisting with drain and soil system maintenance, taking meter readings after training, and supporting snow clearance and gritting operations, including topping up salt bins Trust-wide. You will be expected to maintain high personal standards of conduct, discipline, presentation, and timekeeping while using all relevant tools under the guidance of senior estates team members. Your contribution will help ensure the hospital and Trust properties remain clean, safe, and well-maintained at all times.

Experience
Previous experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided to support your development in all required tasks.

You should be reliable, hardworking, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. A practical approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn new skills are essential. Flexibility to work overtime at short notice is required. You must maintain high standards of personal conduct, discipline, and presentation.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for this role, although basic knowledge of maintenance tasks and a positive attitude towards learning and development will be advantageous.
