About the Role
As a Maintenance Assistant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the hospital and Trust properties to a high standard. Your duties will include emptying bins regularly around the grounds and gardens, tackling blockages in Trust bathrooms, cutting back shrubbery and hedging, weeding paths, steps, roadways and other areas, and washing down signs and external surfaces. You will assist in the maintenance of drains and soil systems with minimal supervision and use relevant tools as instructed by senior members of the estates team. Additional responsibilities include maintaining plant rooms, boiler rooms, and workshops by sweeping, disposing of rubbish, and removing redundant equipment. You will also carry out meter readings after training, perform minor electrical and mechanical tasks such as changing tap washers, toilet siphons, fuses in portable appliance plugs, and replacing lamps, fluorescent tubes, and starters (without disconnecting electrical circuits). Safe disposal of spent lamps in compliance with Health and Safety legislation is required. You will assist with snow clearance and gritting when necessary, including topping up salt bins Trust-wide. Keeping the hospital and Trust grounds clean, swept, and free of rubbish is an essential part of this role.

Experience
Previous experience in maintenance or estates work is desirable but not essential. Training will be provided for specific tasks.

About you
You should be reliable, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team. A good standard of personal conduct, discipline, presentation, and timekeeping is essential. You must be physically fit to carry out manual tasks and able to respond flexibly to the needs of the Trust, including working overtime at short notice.

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required, but a willingness to learn and follow Health and Safety procedures is essential. Basic knowledge or experience of minor electrical and mechanical maintenance is advantageous.
