The Stations team within WSP’s Rail business is actively seeking a Principal / Associate Mechanical Engineer to lead teams delivering mechanical building services designs for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings across the UK and internationally. The role includes all aspects of technical delivery, work winning and client engagement with opportunities for onward progression.

Key responsibilities include producing and supervising high quality, industry-leading building designs, realising WSP’s and our client’s net zero carbon commitments by delivering highly sustainable, low carbon designs, and sharing knowledge and technical skills with colleagues globally. You will work with initiative supported by specialist experience to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
You will supervise the completion of detailed designs and the work of others, maximise joint learning opportunities, interpret client specification requirements, and design pipework systems including heating, cooling, hot and cold water, ventilation systems, and select plant and equipment such as Air Handling Units, Fans, Pumps, Boilers, Chillers, ductwork and pipework ancillaries.
A detailed working knowledge of compliance requirements to Building Regulations, Part L, and other MEP sustainable and Net Zero design requirements is essential. You will be involved in delivering major railway stations from early concept to handover, with unparalleled opportunities to stretch and further your knowledge in a supportive culture that enhances your capabilities and skills, putting your career on a growth trajectory.
You will work closely with like-minded professionals in a Rail Station MEP team of over 70 mechanical, electrical, and Public Health Engineers. The team undertakes project work across the design lifecycle for clients including Network Rail, HS2, TfL, Transport for The North, TfGM, Nexus, Local Authorities, Principal Contractors, and Private Developers.

Experience
- Mechanical building services design in the Rail environment including heating, cooling, hot and cold water, and ventilation systems
- Understanding of Network Rail and/or London Underground standards
- Design of controls/BMS for mechanical systems
- Design of above ground plumbing and waste systems, rainwater disposal systems, and drainage systems
- Chartership status with a UK Engineering Institution

Qualifications
