About the Role
The successful candidate will be a qualified social worker with a minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience in a statutory setting. You will be experienced in safeguarding and assessments under the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act. A working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation and guidance is essential, alongside experience working with mental health.
You will provide case management of complex cases under the Care Act 2014 and safeguarding, including taking cases to the Court of Protection. Support and supervision will be provided by senior practitioners, and you will also supervise other social workers.
Your duties will include undertaking assessments and reviews, and working in partnership across organisational boundaries with NHS colleagues in mental health teams and wards, as well as with a range of partnership organisations.
The successful candidate will progress towards Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) training as part of their career development pathway.
About Us
The Mental Health Social Care Team (MHSCT) is part of Adult Social Care within the Royal Borough of Kingston (RBK). We are one of two specialist teams within Adult Social Care, operating under the Care Act 2014, the Mental Health Act, and the Mental Capacity Act.
We work with adults whose primary needs relate to mental health, as well as those with autism and drug/alcohol issues. We also support young people transitioning from children’s to adult services.
Our team collaborates closely with NHS mental health teams, mental health wards, primary care, and a wide range of community partnership organisations. Based at Tolworth Hospital, we operate a hybrid working model combining office and home working.
We are a large, friendly, and supportive team including a manager, deputy manager, and business support colleagues. The team also incorporates the Royal Borough's AMHP service.

Experience
Minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience as a social worker in a statutory setting. Proven experience in safeguarding, Care Act 2014 assessments, Mental Capacity Act, and working with mental health. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and experience with autism, drug, and alcohol issues in a statutory context are essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing. Ability to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries. Enthusiastic, motivated, and committed to professional development, including progression towards AMHP training. Good IT skills are advantageous.
Qualifications
Qualified social worker status is required.
