About the Role
If you’re interested in making a difference to people’s lives, HM Treasury offers an exciting opportunity to influence decision making that affects the whole of the UK. Working at the heart of government, we collaborate across departments to promote responsible public spending and drive strong and sustainable economic growth. Our work spans protecting customers through financial regulation, reducing carbon emissions, promoting British trade, and supporting jobs and growth across the country.

The People and Capability team delivers a wide range of services and people solutions for the department. This friendly, multi-skilled team works closely with senior stakeholders to embed cultural change and add value across HM Treasury.

As a People and Capability Data Analyst, you will support the Senior Analytics Engineer and wider People Analytics team to deliver reliable, timely and accessible workforce reporting. You will maintain, assure and improve reporting products including dashboards, regular data returns and ad hoc analysis, enabling colleagues and senior leaders to understand workforce trends, monitor performance and make informed decisions.

You will collaborate with HR colleagues, analysts and stakeholders across the Corporate Centre Group to respond to reporting requirements, collate central commissions, and provide insightful analysis on people-related questions. Handling sensitive HR data requires attention to detail, sound judgement and a strong understanding of data protection and confidentiality.

This is a hands-on analytical role offering opportunities to develop technical skills in analytical, reporting and automation tools such as Power BI, Excel and Power Query. You will contribute to improving reporting processes and data quality while working within governance standards and team priorities. The role suits someone who enjoys using data to solve problems, communicate insights clearly and support continuous improvement in people data usage across the department.

Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating workforce reporting products, delivering regular data returns and departmental reporting, responding to ad hoc analysis requests, cleaning and validating HR datasets, assisting with development of analytical tools, documenting processes, working collaboratively across teams, and contributing to a positive analytical culture.

The team operates flexibly to meet emerging priorities and promotes an inclusive and supportive atmosphere with active participation in corporate activities encouraged.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in data analysis, visualisation and presentation is essential. You should be skilled in cleaning, checking and analysing people data, producing clear reports and visualisations for both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience supporting maintenance and improvement of people data reporting products, including data validation, routine reporting, ad hoc analysis, and using tools such as Excel, Power BI and Power Query is required.

About you
You are someone who takes responsibility for delivering timely and quality results across competing priorities, balancing short-term and long-term goals. You form effective partnerships and relationships with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, sharing information and support. You seek opportunities to create effective change, suggest innovative improvements, and actively seek and provide feedback. Attention to detail, sound judgement and a strong understanding of data protection and confidentiality are essential due to handling sensitive HR data.

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not detailed, you will be expected to demonstrate strong technical skills in data analysis and reporting tools. Prior successful completion of the Civil Service Numerical Test is required before application submission. You will also be subject to security vetting including Baseline Personnel Security Standard and Security Check (SC).
