About the Role
Working at HM Treasury puts you at the heart of government, making a difference to the UK economy and ultimately to people’s lives across the UK. The Treasury offers a fast-paced, engaging environment with the opportunity to advise Ministers on decisions that directly shape the UK’s prosperity. We are committed to empowering our people, maximising individual and collective impact, and providing interesting work at all levels.

As Deputy Director, Banking Assets and Resolution Strategy, you will play a key leadership role within the Group Management Team, overseeing a team of around 20 FTE. You will manage resourcing, develop capability, and provide direction to ensure a high-performing, engaged, and effective team, including integrating new policy functions and supporting new team members.

Your responsibilities will include advising Ministers and senior officials on resolution policy and banking regulation, building strong relationships with delivery partners such as the Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, and others, and delivering reforms to the bank ring-fencing regime and prudential regulation. You will also ensure the resolution regime adapts to evolving risks, including insurance company resolution, and steward HM Treasury’s residual UKAR liabilities through its wind-down programme.

The role offers the chance to work within a dynamic, forward-looking economics and finance ministry, contributing to the UK’s economic future while working in a friendly, inclusive, and sociable environment with offices across London and other UK locations.

Requirements

Experience
In-depth understanding of the financial sector and its regulation, especially banking regulation and its legislative basis, with the ability to develop and deliver financial sector regulatory policy within government. Proven experience leading policy and strategy development in technically complex areas involving multiple teams or organisations, balancing strategic objectives and delivery landscapes. Demonstrated success in leading and motivating diverse teams in a context of competing and changing priorities. Proven ability to work with and influence senior leaders by communicating complex technical content compellingly. Experience building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence strategy and improve delivery.

About you
Strong leadership and management skills with a commitment to Civil Service values and behaviours including Communicating and Influencing, Leadership, Making Effective Decisions, Seeing the Big Picture, and Working Together. Ability to build trust and provide high-quality, evidence-based advice balancing competing objectives. Motivated to work in a high-performing, inclusive environment and contribute to the Treasury’s mission.

Qualifications
An economics, central banking, or finance-related degree, or relevant experience in financial sector regulation is essential.
