About the Role
This is a great opportunity to expand your policy experience in a varied, fast-moving role that will make a real difference to London and Londoners. The West London Alliance (WLA) is a partnership of seven West London borough councils hosted by Ealing Council, working to improve outcomes across the sub-region. The Leaders and Chief Executives have set an ambition for WLA to enhance its policy influencing and promotion work with key decision-makers and opinion-formers.
As a Policy Officer, you will undertake and oversee research and analysis on a broad range of economic and public service topics; coordinate and write representations and consultation responses aimed at Government, Parliamentary bodies, and the Mayor of London; and support West London boroughs in raising their profile and influencing London and national policy through clear and timely briefings and policy products.
You will be managed by the Assistant Director, Economy, and work across teams and themes. The role requires strong knowledge of policy and politics within London and nationally, alongside the curiosity and ability to learn quickly about different topics. You will work effectively with a range of partners and colleagues at different levels, including senior council officers, elected councillors, Civil Servants, and others. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work to short deadlines in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Experience
- Knowledge of the role of local authorities in London and the policy-making process at local, regional, and national levels, including their interrelationships.
- Interest in and knowledge of London and UK politics.
- Experience working in policy within local, regional or national government, think tanks, or similar organisations, and/or influencing roles such as public affairs agencies.
- Experience or interest in identifying grant funding sources and preparing bids/applications.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build effective working relationships across a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.
- Comfortable working to short deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
