About the Role
We are seeking Principal level environmental professionals to join our Environmental Management and Assessment Team across our UK offices. You will work on an exciting portfolio of projects spanning sectors such as energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property, and Local Government. This role requires a creative spirit, dedication, and a solid grounding in environmental design, assessment, and management at any stage of the development project lifecycle.
As one of the largest environmental consultancies in the UK, WSP is involved in some of the most challenging and high-profile projects, from small developments to major national infrastructure schemes. Our team oversees and manages environmental inputs throughout project lifecycles, engaging early at concept and option stages to shape projects that address sensitive environments and communities.
You will work closely with environmental specialists and other professionals to develop proposals that enhance the environment and communities, promoting wider benefits such as improved habitats, cleaner air and water, lower carbon emissions, and overall environmental gain. You will also support design and construction teams to ensure commitments are met.
This role suits a proactive individual eager to progress their career by leading environmental teams and inputs across multiple sectors including rail, highways, energy, and commercial/residential projects from feasibility through to planning, detailed design, construction, and handover/maintenance.
Key responsibilities include leading projects, bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial management. Typical activities involve providing environmental advice, promoting sustainable design, leading complex projects, building client relationships, securing new work, developing innovative techniques such as Digital EIA and Future Ready EIA, driving team performance, and fostering an inclusive workplace culture aligned with health, safety, and wellbeing values.

Experience
- Extensive experience in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes
- Proven ability to work with limited supervision within multi-disciplinary teams
- Sound knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation
- Experience in large scale infrastructure projects such as rail, highways, energy, and commercial/residential developments
- Comprehensive project management skills including commercial, risk management, forecasting, and quality assurance

Qualifications
- Relevant environmental degree level qualification in EIA or similar
- Achieved or demonstrably working towards Chartered Environmental Status and full membership of IEMA or equivalent professional body
