About the Role
Are you looking for your next challenge in a role that offers variety and professional growth? We are seeking a specialist Contract and Procurement Lawyer with proven public sector contracts experience, either from within the public sector or private practice with public sector exposure. This fixed term 12-month role (with potential extension) will provide a high quality legal service to the Council, supporting its priorities and objectives for the benefit of the community.
As part of Greenwich Legal Services, you will join a high performing in-house legal team playing a vital role in delivering key corporate objectives. Reporting to the Assistant Head of Legal Services (Planning & Procurement), you will lead on embedding changes from the Procurement Act and assist in transforming service delivery in contracts and procurement.
The role requires strong management and communication skills, project management ability, and the capacity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. You will manage your own complex caseload while supporting the development of junior lawyers. Collaborative working with clients and external legal partners is essential, providing corporate guidance and coordinating legal advice.
Your vision and insight will be critical in fostering supportive yet challenging relationships with those you advise, acting as a trusted legal adviser and persuasive senior colleague. You will provide legal advice and support to committees, Councillors, and senior officers, deputising for the Assistant Head of Legal Services as required.

Experience
Proven track record in public sector contracts and procurement law, gained either in the public sector or private practice with public sector exposure. Experience managing complex legal caseloads and leading projects. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications
Qualified solicitor or barrister holding a current practising certificate, or FiLex.
