About the Role
Are you an experienced childcare lawyer with local government experience looking for variety and challenge? Greenwich Legal Services is committed to being a high performing in-house legal team that plays an essential role in achieving the Royal Borough’s priorities and objectives for the benefit of the community. You will join us at an exciting time as the Royal Borough continues its ambitious regeneration programme.
We are seeking a Senior Lawyer (Safeguarding Children) to join our busy team. You will manage a varied caseload and provide legal advice, support, and representation to the council’s Directorate of Children’s Services. Key responsibilities include advising and representing Social Workers in Child Protection functions, attending legal planning meetings, advising on care proceedings, adoption (including complex and international cases), Deprivation of Liberty cases, and pre-action Judicial Reviews. You will also attend Pre Proceedings Meetings with parents and external lawyers, handle enquiries regarding legislation interpretation related to the council’s duties, and liaise closely with Social Workers and other stakeholders to ensure effective legal service delivery.
This role offers the opportunity to work within an accessible in-house team integral to shaping the future of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Experience
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent with demonstrable experience in all aspects of law relating to Safeguarding Children. Experience working within local government legal services is highly desirable.

You should be confident in representing the council in complex child protection matters and able to work collaboratively with Social Workers and other professionals involved in safeguarding children.
Qualifications
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent professional legal qualification.
