About the Role
Meta is seeking Security Engineers with deep Privacy and Data Protection expertise to join our Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) organization. In this role, you will apply advanced privacy engineering skills to complex, real-world challenges involving how systems collect, use, retain, expose, and delete data. Your work is AI-augmented from day one: leveraging AI tools and agents to accelerate your impact, while using your expertise to improve AI models where they fall short.

This role focuses on privacy problems that require multi-step reasoning and expert judgment beyond what AI models can currently derive, such as jurisdictional deletion deadlines, anonymity thresholds for derived datasets, and cascading deletions. You will build privacy capabilities, tools, and evaluation environments, prototyping AI-driven solutions at Meta's scale.

Key responsibilities include designing and executing privacy obligation analyses, de-identification assessments, data lifecycle reviews, and data access reasoning augmented by AI tools. You will identify gaps in AI privacy reasoning and collaborate with model researchers to translate privacy expertise into training signals. Partnering with legal, policy, product, and infrastructure teams, you will translate privacy obligations into engineering requirements and own complex privacy initiatives end to end. You will also disseminate findings through internal publications and contribute to the broader privacy and security community.

Requirements

Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience in technical privacy, data protection, or privacy-adjacent security engineering
- Deep expertise in at least one privacy subdomain such as purpose limitation, retention and deletion, data access control, jurisdictional obligations, de-identification, consent, or ML and model privacy
- Experience implementing privacy obligations in production systems and advising on privacy controls
- Proficiency in software engineering including code review and maintenance, with experience in Python, PHP, Java, C/C++, or equivalent languages
- Proven track record of architecting privacy systems, controls, or programs at scale
- Demonstrated ability to define and drive complex, ambiguous problem spaces with group-level impact
- Ongoing AI skill development including prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration
- Experience applying formal de-identification techniques like differential privacy or k-anonymity in production
- Familiarity with pseudonymization lifecycle and deletion of user-to-pseudonym mappings
- Experience implementing responsible, ethical AI practices such as risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality reviews
- Experience handling obligations conditioned on jurisdiction, age band, or cohort including regional carve-outs and regulatory deadlines
- Experience improving AI model performance through expert feedback, red teaming, or evaluation design
- Background in ML and model privacy including memorization, membership inference, training-data extractability, and disclosure through model outputs
- Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and drive measurable impact
- Contributions to the privacy or security community through research, tools, presentations, or publications
- Experience with privacy review or incident response at scale

About you
You are a privacy engineer passionate about operating at the intersection of deep privacy expertise and frontier AI. You thrive on solving complex problems that require novel approaches and expert judgment. You enjoy collaborating across teams and translating legal and policy requirements into engineering solutions. You are proactive in sharing knowledge and advancing the state of the art in privacy engineering and AI.

Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
