About the Role
The Financial Times is seeking a Production Journalist to join the Opinion and Analysis department, working across Opinion, Big Read, Work and Careers, Leaders and Letters content both online and in print. You will work closely with the opinion editor and chief production journalist in a flexible, collegial team. This role is ideal for an ambitious journalist looking to expand their experience, contribute to editorial debates shaping FT coverage, and make a mark in a globally respected news organisation.

Key responsibilities include writing catchy headlines, standfirsts and captions, setting up and editing page layouts, liaising confidently with columnists and leader writers, and producing and editing the FT’s letters section as required. You will work under deadline pressure with speed and confidence, demonstrating tact and diplomacy in a close-knit team environment. Familiarity with Spark, Methode and Slack is important to cover both web and print content. Basic page layout skills or enthusiasm to learn, as well as confidence using data and charts, are essential. Innovative ideas to improve reader engagement are encouraged.

This position handles some of the FT’s most influential and closely read copy, offering ample opportunities to shine and influence the evolution of the department and its content. Training will be provided for the letters editor rota and other responsibilities.

Experience
Meticulous sub-editing, editing, revising, web production and page layout experience across Features sections is required. Experience working under deadline pressure and liaising with writers and columnists is essential. Familiarity with Spark, Methode and Slack is highly desirable.
