About the Role
As a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, you will accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service, including participation in the team's duty and triage rota alongside a high intensity therapist and senior clinician. You will assess and support people with common mental health problems in the self-management of their recovery through patient-centred interviews that identify areas for change and recovery, while accurately assessing risk to self and others. You will make decisions on the suitability of new referrals, adhering to referral protocols, referring unsuitable clients to relevant services or stepping up treatment to high intensity psychological therapy when necessary.
Your role includes providing a range of information and support for evidence-based, high-volume, low-intensity psychological treatments such as guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be delivered face to face, via telephone, or other media. You will educate and involve family members and others in treatment where appropriate.
You will adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to client contacts and clinical sessions per week to minimise waiting times and ensure accessible treatment delivery. Attendance at multidisciplinary meetings related to referrals or clients in treatment is expected. You will complete all data collection requirements and maintain coherent clinical records in line with service protocols, using these records and clinical outcome data to inform clinical decisions.
Working closely with other team members, you will ensure appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements to maintain a stepped care approach. You will assess and integrate work and employment issues into therapy as part of the overall process. The role requires operating from an inclusive values base that promotes recovery and respects diversity.
You will prepare and present clinical information for patients on your caseload to clinical case management supervisors on an agreed schedule to ensure safe practice and clinical governance. The role involves managing a range of clients and clinical situations, including those requiring tact, initiative, and persuasion in the face of psychological resistance.
