Public Protection Officer (Food Safety/Health & Safety)

Romford, London Borough of Havering with work required across the borough including hybrid working.

Full Time - 36 hours per week
Salary
Grade 7: £43,680 - £48,003 per annum
About the Role
In this role, you will deliver the food hygiene and standards inspection programme and investigate complaints related to food and health & safety matters. You will assist with various functions including health & safety at work, accident investigations, and infectious disease control. Your responsibilities will also include providing comments on licensing and planning applications, as well as event consultations.
As a regulatory officer, you will carry out enforcement actions in line with the Council’s enforcement policy, provide advice, respond to complaints, and serve notices as necessary. Attendance at court and other hearings to provide evidence and lead prosecutions will be required.
You will manage a multi-disciplined enforcement caseload effectively, which may include monitoring visits during unsociable hours, though not on an on-call basis.
You must hold post-qualification experience and be competent under the Food Law Code of Practice to inspect high-risk food businesses. Competency to enforce under the Health & Safety at Work Act and associated regulations is also required. A suitable qualification as listed in the Food Law Code of Practice is essential, along with the ability to provide your competency framework and current CPD upon request.
Experience
Post-qualification experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement. Competence in inspecting high-risk food businesses and enforcing relevant legislation.

Good working knowledge of IT systems including MS 365 and case management systems. Willingness to contribute to service improvements.
Qualifications
Must hold a suitable qualification as listed in the Food Law Code of Practice. Ability to provide a copy of your competency framework and evidence of current and appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) on request.
