About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark rail projects, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry. As a Rail Advisory Consultant within the Rail Asset Management & Maintenance team, you will support clients across the full asset lifecycle, from strategy development and design analysis through to operations, renewals, and continuous improvement. Your work will focus on maintainability, cost-efficiency, and asset performance, helping organisations realise the full value of their assets in line with standards such as ISO 55000, ISO 55001, and ISO 55002.
This varied role blends rail maintenance advisory, asset management, and high-level consulting across multiple rail disciplines including rail systems, infrastructure, digital signalling systems, and rolling stock. You will engage in both detailed operational problem-solving and strategic organisational change, covering operational system specifications, design reviews, whole-life cost analysis, maintenance planning, maintainability and accessibility assessments, and the development of asset management strategies and systems.
You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, often embedded within client organisations, to co-create practical, future-ready solutions. The role involves integrating new technologies into whole-system solutions, troubleshooting complex projects, and contributing to strategic and operational improvements. This is a client-facing role that values entrepreneurial thinking, fresh ideas, and a sharp eye for opportunities to future-proof rail operations and act as a strategic enabler for clients.

Experience
- Chartered Engineer with a Professional Engineering Council such as IMechE, IET, IEE, or equivalent
- Strong background in railway maintenance, asset management, or related rail disciplines
- Proven experience in asset management and lifecycle delivery, ideally within transport, rail, or infrastructure sectors
- Experience in rail infrastructure maintenance or rail signalling maintenance
- Experience working independently across multiple projects
- Experience in asset data analytics, modelling, and reporting
- Experience working on major rail programmes (e.g. HS2, East West Rail, TfL, Network Rail) is desirable

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Asset Management, Rail Systems, or a related field
- Strong understanding of Asset Management principles and standards (ISO 55000, ISO 55001 & ISO 55002)
- Professional certifications in Asset Management such as IAM certificate/diploma are highly desirable
- Knowledge of sustainability and resilience in rail asset management
- Experience in technical development and mentoring of people in asset management is advantageous
