The Research and Development (R&D) department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ is nationally recognised for its innovative research portfolio and infrastructure, supporting a wide range of clinical research activities including Phase I clinical trials. The department is a key player in the South London Research Delivery Network and supports numerous NIHR grants and academic collaborations.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with an understanding of NHS R&D who wishes to progress into clinical research governance. The Research Governance Coordinator will play a key role in the effective delivery of non-commercial study set-up activities within the Trust’s non-commercial R&D teams. Candidates with knowledge of R&D, clinical research management, or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be an experienced administrator with excellent communication and organisational skills, able to support researchers and manage research governance processes efficiently. While experience in clinical research governance or clinical trials is advantageous, full training will be provided. The role requires working both independently and as part of a team, following standard operating procedures and managing time productively. The post involves working from the office three days a week with flexibility and travel across hospital sites to support researchers and delivery teams.

Main Responsibilities
- Manage Trust approvals of research projects and issue confirmation of capacity approvals including study amendment approvals to enable clinical research to start or continue
- Maintain the R&D database (EDGE) as the central record of all R&D activity within or involving the Trust
- Act as the administrative contact within the R&D Office for seeking relevant approvals and provide advice and information to researchers
- Coordinate, liaise and advise investigators and sponsors seeking approvals for R&D projects
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of new developments in NHS R&D management and governance

Requirements

Experience
- Background in R&D administration including HRA, REC, clinical trials governance is essential
- Experience using the EDGE database is desirable

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional qualification is essential
