About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Senior Medical Examiner Officer (MEO) to join the busy Medical Examiner Service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. You will be part of a small team supporting the Trust’s Medical Examiners in scrutinising all deaths within the Trust’s acute hospitals and community deaths in Lambeth and Southwark. The role involves working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including Coroners’ Offices, to support bereaved families through death registration and funeral arrangements.

You will manage day-to-day casework for all acute and non-acute deaths referred to the Medical Examiner Office, including delegation and supervision of Band 5 MEOs. The role requires evaluating and prioritising complex activities to meet competing demands, coordinating handovers, assisting in data collection and report preparation, and advising key stakeholders on policy and procedural matters.

As Senior MEO, you will deputise for the Lead MEO, including managing staff and representing the service at meetings. This role demands a professional, empathetic approach and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

Experience
- Demonstrable previous experience as a Medical Examiner Officer.
- Experience working with people in sensitive and emotional situations.
- Experience in healthcare settings with multi-disciplinary teams across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to Bachelor’s degree level or significant equivalent practical experience at an advanced level in a related field.
- Further training and/or experience equivalent to post-graduate diploma level as a Medical Examiner Officer.
- Completed e-learning MEO core training modules prior to starting.
- Commitment to life-long learning and personal development.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including the recently bereaved.

Desirable
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as Nursing or Paramedic Science.
- Registration with a relevant regulatory body (e.g. NMC, HCPC).
