About the Role

Our Street Works Team is responsible for the statutory coordination and management of street works carried out by the council and statutory undertakers on public highways in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act (TMA).

As a Roads and Street Works Inspector, you will undertake the inspection, recording, and reporting of street works, highway infrastructure, and surface apparatus defects in line with street works legislation, associated regulations, codes of practice, and other relevant highways legislation. You will ensure all highway works are carried out safely and legally under NRSWA requirements, addressing any breaches accordingly. Additionally, you will prepare evidence and witness statements related to illegal activities on the highway.

This role requires strong organisational and communication skills, with a focus on maintaining high standards of safety and compliance while working collaboratively with colleagues and external parties.

Requirements

Experience
Substantial experience in street works in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA). Proven ability to adhere to industry regulations and manage street works effectively within a local authority or similar environment.

About you
Recognised NRSWA accredited training demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of local authority and highways network operations. Strong teamwork skills combined with the ability to work independently. Thorough knowledge of the Code of Practice for the Specification for the Reinstatement and Openings of Highways. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills when engaging with members of the public and third parties, committed to delivering a high standard of service.

Qualifications
Accredited training under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 is essential.
