About the Role
As a Rotational Occupational Therapist, you will assess and treat patients to improve their quality of life by addressing physical, cognitive, affective, social, and environmental issues. Treatment will be delivered on an individual or group basis using a range of therapeutic skills in both hospital and community settings. You will prioritise factors involved in the client’s presenting condition through clinical reasoning, considering skills, knowledge, experience, and current professional opinion, alongside clients’ progress and other physical, social, emotional, and mental health issues.

You will use well-developed verbal and non-verbal communication skills to ensure clients and their carers understand advice, education, and recommendations. Communicating sensitive information clearly and enabling patient participation and cooperation in treatment is essential. You will produce written, electronic, and verbal reports for the multidisciplinary team and other health or social care providers, conveying information in an accessible and meaningful manner despite potential communication barriers.

The role includes utilising opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge, applying critical appraisal, and keeping up to date with current practice. You will support other Occupational Therapists in educating and training professionals and visitors to the department and participate in education programmes for client and service groups.

Management responsibilities include maintaining accurate and evaluative patient care records in line with service policy, delegating appropriate work to supporting staff, and providing informal day-to-day support to Rehabilitation Assistants and students to enable them to manage or assist with caseloads.

You will also participate in evaluating clinical practice and keep up to date with developments in research and clinical practice related to rehabilitation, older people, and related areas.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in occupational therapy practice is essential. Previous exposure to rehabilitation, older people’s services, or community settings is advantageous but not mandatory.

About you
You will be a motivated and compassionate professional with strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams. You should be adaptable and willing to engage in continuous professional development and education activities. The ability to work collaboratively and support colleagues, students, and assistants is important.

Qualifications
You must hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to professional standards is required.
