About the Role
Croydon Council is one of the largest London boroughs, committed to providing safe transportation for its SEN clientele to and from school. This role is part of the in-house passenger transport service, delivering vital services to a vulnerable client group within a diverse and populous borough. The service is evolving with a clear strategy to manage increasing demand and promote client independence through alternative travel models.
As an SEN Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting young people and adults according to prepared schedules or as directed. You will assist passengers with care and consideration, maintain appropriate records, and act effectively to diffuse difficult situations. The role requires flexibility to work within core service hours and outside normal office hours on a rota basis. You will be required to wear a uniform and undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Experience
- Previous experience driving passenger transport vehicles, preferably with young people or adults
- Knowledge of Road Traffic Acts and Highway Code
- Experience assisting passengers with care and consideration
- Ability to keep accurate records and write brief reports on incidents
- Ability to manage and diffuse difficult situations effectively
- Ability to liaise tactfully between home and school

Qualifications
- Appropriate "D1" driving licence with PCV entitlement for the vehicle being driven
- Completed MIDAS and First Aid Training (or willingness to complete)
- Enhanced DBS Disclosure (required for this role)
