Clinical Aims To bring together the majority of cancer care and research under oneroof, so that patients are given seamless care and staff can worktogether on diagnosing, treating and applying research into cancer. The department is internationally distinguished for its commitment to research & development and constantly strives for excellence through dedication and innovation. Oncology at GSTFT has entered a new and exciting phase with astate of the art cancer centre on the Guys site. The Cancer Centre at GuysHospital opened in September 2016, this provides a single point for bothdiagnosis and treatment. This centre will be the hub for South East Londonproviding specialist cancer services, training, development and research and allowing for better treatment and improved outcomes for patients. We look forward to helping support your oncology career in world renown and forward thinking environment.The Richard Dimbleby Cancer Information and Support Service offers people with cancer information; complementary therapies and psychological support to help them and their families cope with their illness.Cancer Care data Number of ambulatory day care beds/chairs (outpatients)44 chairs (these are based in the Chemotherapy Day Unit and the Haematology Day Unit respectively). 10 beds (these are based in several locations across the Day Units)Number of inpatient beds:There are 802 beds at the St Thomass site and 288 beds at Guyssite- total of 1090 beds across site84 (core beds, made up of Med Onc, Clin Haem, Breast & Thoracic) Main place of employment:The post will be based at the Guys and St Thomas Site. However, it is arequirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at anyadditional or different location owned or served by the trust, either on an ongoing or temporary basis according to the demands of the service. This could sites across Guys and St Thomass or Queen Marys Sidcup, QueenElizabeth Woolwich, Princess Royal Hospital, Kent or other hospitals withinour cancer service. Job Summary: The post will be largely outpatient or day unit based to ensure safeadministration of systemic anti-cancer therapy. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object ofensuring a high standard of patient care. To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training The post holder is required to follow Trust policies and procedures whichare regularly updated. Duties and responsibilities:Clinical:The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provisionof Oncology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust toinclude:a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals,health centres or clinics or other premises as required.b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge,allowing or all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.4c) The majority of the role will be in oncology outpatients or chemotherapyday unit/acute oncology assessment unit.Training of junior staff:The postholders will take responsibility for the training and direction of juniorstaff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that postholdershas agreed with their supervising consultant. Teaching:The post holder will be expected to contribute as appropriate in the teachingof undergraduate and postgraduate students. Clinical Governance:All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governanceactivity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol developmentand clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence oftheir contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work aspart of their appraisal. Mutual Obligation to Monitor Hours:There is a contractual obligation on employers to monitor working hoursthrough robust local monitoring arrangements supported by national guidance,and on individual doctors to co-operate with those monitoring arrangements. European Working Time Directive (EWTD):All posts and working patterns are under constant review in line with EWTDguidelines Educational Programme:Neither the London Deanery not the Royal College of Physicians accreditsthis post for postgraduate training. However the postholder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. departmental meetings, xray meetings, pathology meetings, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubsetc. Study leave and budget are available. Appraisal:All medical and dental staff are required to undertake appraisal.
