You will liaise with colleagues within the Lighting and Energy Solutions team, wider multi-disciplinary design teams, stakeholders and clients. Your responsibilities will include production of detailed design layouts, engineering detailed drawings and support documentation in accordance with WSP’s Quality Assurance and client requirements. You will prepare feasibility reports, technical notes, optioneering reports and specifications.
Engagement with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers will be key, along with coordination with contractors including site support and responding to RFIs and TQs. You will complete non-intrusive site visits to support the development of lighting assessments and site clearance drawings. Supporting the development of project proposals and monitoring progress against agreed programme milestones and budget constraints will also be part of your role.
You will liaise with Local Authority clients and assist in building strong working relationships within the Local Government Sector. You will analyse and evaluate client briefs, offering expert guidance and tailored support. Additionally, you will assist and guide Early Career Professionals on their career journeys.
Representing WSP within the lighting industry, you will foster industry relationships and drive business development.
You will join a growing, multi-disciplinary, energetic team of lighting professionals highly regarded within the industry, including specialisms in Electrical and EV, Environmental, Local Government, Architectural and the Strategic Road Network. You will be part of a global network of lighting specialists and experts, with opportunities to join or maintain professional memberships. Mentorship is available to assist with membership upgrades and you will have access to regular CPD sessions and advanced training programs for personal development.
Our projects span Commercial, Urban Realm, Transportation and Infrastructure sectors, working with national and local government and private clients.
Experience
- Proficient in Lighting Reality or Dialux lighting design software and AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance, legislation and regulations
- Good general awareness and understanding of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations
- Demonstrated competency and experience in lighting design from conception through to issue for construction
- Good understanding of central management systems
- Experience working within the Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors
- Knowledge of external lighting products
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation, EngTech registration with the Engineering Council and actively working towards IEng status

Qualifications
- Relevant professional membership (EngTech) and progression towards IEng status
- Formal qualifications in lighting engineering or related discipline preferred
