About the Role
We are seeking an experienced reward professional to join Islington Council as Reward Lead (Job Families) on a fixed-term contract. This key role involves leading the design and delivery of the council-wide Job Families and career framework, ensuring our approach to role design and progression is clear, fair and sustainable. You will act as the subject matter expert on job families, progression structures and their interaction with job evaluation and pay. Working closely with managers, HR colleagues and trade unions, you will support effective implementation across the organisation.
You will lead the end-to-end design and implementation of the council’s Job Families framework, managing defined workstreams including planning, sequencing, risks and dependencies. Your responsibilities will include developing job family descriptors, role profiles and progression criteria, advising on job evaluation, equal pay considerations and role architecture, producing clear briefings and recommendations for senior leaders and governance forums, supervising and quality-assuring the work of a Reward Advisor, and supporting engagement, consultation and training to embed job families into day-to-day practice.
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping how careers, progression and reward are structured across a large and diverse organisation. You will work on a high-profile programme that supports fairness, transparency and workforce planning, while being part of a supportive and values-driven HR team.
