About the Role
Join our Payments Lab team as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer and help shape the future of retail banking during the largest transformation in the UK banking industry. The Payments Lab team drives innovation by delivering initiatives such as Request a Payment and enabling cash deposits at local pay point stores. As part of the Consumer Servicing & Engagement (CS&E) Platform, we are modernising our technology stack and building new capabilities using the latest Cloud and Mobile technologies.
The CS&E Platform provides a unified digital servicing proposition for personal customers on their preferred devices, enhancing digital customer experience to increase engagement and self-service options. We focus on building deeper, trusted relationships with our 25M+ customers by offering valuable, engaging, and human-like digital banking experiences that improve financial lives through simple, personalised, and helpful interactions.
Day to day, you will apply best practices in observability, automation, capacity planning, and DevOps; maintain application stack reliability; create and maintain documentation establishing the SRE function; lead the transition to cloud infrastructure; improve system observability; identify and eliminate toil through automation; manage incidents and post-mortems; mentor engineers; and collaborate with Product Owners to balance operational and development priorities.
Experience
- Prior experience in Banking or Financial Services or understanding of UK regulatory bodies
- Demonstrable experience with Cloud & Infrastructure, preferably GCP (GKE, Dataflow, Spanner, Cloud Logging, IAM)
- Strong background in Monitoring & Observability tools such as Dynatrace, Datadog, or ELK
- System Engineering and Networking experience, preferably Linux
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java programming, automation, and scripting
- Deep knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
- Understanding of REST and gRPC APIs
- Familiarity with CI/CD scripting using Jenkins or Harness
- Experience in Incident Response, troubleshooting, and Chaos Engineering
- Knowledge of Performance Testing and Capacity Planning

Qualifications
Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent experience in site reliability engineering, cloud infrastructure, or software engineering are preferred but not mandatory.
