WSP has an opportunity for an experienced Senior to Associate Mechanical Engineer in our London office, focusing on the Data Centre sector with our Mission Critical Facilities team. You will work on some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects within this fast-paced sector. Our projects involve Colocation Providers, End Users and Enterprise clients across the UK and EMEA.
Key responsibilities include supporting the team in developing designs for mechanical distribution systems such as CHW, HVAC, Fuel and LTHW; providing advice to clients on mechanical systems to meet their business needs; leading the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment; producing written reports and technical specifications; ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements; coordinating with other disciplines including Architects and Structural Engineers; producing calculations and tender documentation; and monitoring installation to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety codes.
Operationally, you will work with minimal supervision on technical aspects of your discipline, interpret project needs, work in a joint leadership capacity within MEP teams, complete detailed designs of mission critical facilities, lead feasibility studies, direct the production of detailed and performance specifications, and review design programmes to ensure adequate resourcing.
Experience
- Proven knowledge and experience in designing mechanical systems for data centres
- Chartered status or working towards Chartered status with CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent
- Technical MEP knowledge of relevant UK and EU regulations and design guides
- Understanding of the Uptime Institute Tier Classification System
- Experience with TAS or IES and Hevacomp for work allocation and direction
- Familiarity with Revit MEP or other 3D design software
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and lead, direct, and mentor others
- Experience working to timescales and deadlines

Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
- Mechanical design skills including U value calculations, heat loss and gain calculations, pipe sizing (LTHW, CHW, HWS, CWS), pump sizing, duct and fan sizing, psychrometrics, control valve sizing and authority, thermal modelling, and BMS systems
- Understanding of CFD analysis
