About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects within the fast-paced Data Centre sector as part of our Mission Critical Facilities team. Based in our London office, you will contribute to some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects, working with Colocation Providers, End Users, and Enterprise clients across the UK and EMEA. Your role will involve developing designs for mechanical distribution systems including chilled water (CHW), HVAC, fuel, and low temperature hot water (LTHW). You will provide expert advice to clients on mechanical system options tailored to their business needs and lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment.

Key responsibilities include producing technical specifications and calculations, coordinating with other disciplines such as architects and structural engineers, and monitoring installation to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety codes. You will work with minimal supervision on technical aspects, interpret project requirements, and provide design and technical advice in a joint leadership capacity within a multidisciplinary team. You will also lead feasibility studies, manage detailed design programmes, and direct others in producing detailed and performance specifications.

Experience
- Proven experience designing mechanical systems for data centres
- Ability to lead mechanical design and produce detailed technical documentation
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and managing design programmes
- Familiarity with UK and EU regulations, design guides, and safety standards
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Classification System
- Proficiency in TAS or IES and Hevacomp for design allocation and direction
- Experience with Revit MEP or other 3D design software
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Mechanical design skills including U value calculations, heat loss/gain calculations, pipe and pump sizing, duct and fan sizing, psychrometrics, control valve sizing, thermal modelling, and BMS systems
- Understanding of CFD analysis is desirable

- Chartered status or working towards Chartered status with CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent
- Strong technical MEP knowledge

Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it
- Relevant mechanical engineering qualifications in building services or related disciplines
