About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects within the Data Centre sector as part of our Mission Critical Facilities team. Based in our London office, you will contribute to some of the most exciting and technically challenging projects in this fast-paced sector, working with Colocation Providers, End Users and Enterprise clients across the UK and EMEA. Your role will involve developing designs for mechanical distribution systems including chilled water (CHW), HVAC, fuel, and low temperature hot water (LTHW). You will lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment, produce technical specifications, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and client requirements. Coordination with other disciplines such as Architects and Structural Engineers will be essential. You will also monitor installation to ensure adherence to design specifications and safety codes.

Operationally, you will work with minimal supervision on technical aspects of your discipline, interpreting client needs and project requirements. You will provide design and technical advice in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) team. Responsibilities include completing detailed designs of mission critical facilities, leading feasibility studies, directing the production of detailed and performance specifications, and managing design programmes to ensure timely delivery.

Experience
- Proven knowledge and experience in designing mechanical systems for data centres
- Experience working with UK and EU regulations, design guides, and standards
- Understanding of the Uptime Institute Tier Classification System
- Experience with TAS or IES and Hevacomp software for design allocation and direction
- Familiarity with Revit MEP or other 3D design software
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage timescales effectively

About you
- Chartered status or working towards Chartered status with CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent
- Strong technical MEP knowledge
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and direct colleagues
- Flexible approach to meet project demands

Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation preferred

Mechanical Design Skills Required
- U value calculations
- Heat loss and heat gain calculations
- Pipe sizing (LTHW, CHW, HWS, CWS etc)
- Pump sizing
- Duct and fan sizing
- Psychrometrics
- Control valve sizing and authority
- Thermal modelling
- BMS systems knowledge
- Understanding of CFD analysis
