About the Role
Join the Financial Wellbeing Platform as its first Site Reliability Engineer and apply your expertise across the full software development lifecycle to benefit customers facing financial difficulties. You will be part of a team dedicated to supporting customers through extenuating circumstances impacting their financial commitments, helping them regain financial health through trusted, long-term relationships.
The Recoveries & Application Management Lab Team works across the platform to provide specialised skills and services, building new systems and solutions. This role offers the opportunity to engage, share experience, and mentor the team in effective and efficient site reliability practices.
After initial evaluation of SRE support, you will join the Platform Engineering team to establish the SRE function by managing cloud environments, developing solution designs, leading incident management, conducting root cause analysis, and handling business changes. You will balance business demands with stability and scalability to deliver successful outcomes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Creating documentation to establish the SRE function and supporting procedures
- Providing a framework for operating cloud systems
- Leading the transition to cloud infrastructure and enhancing system observability
- Identifying and eliminating toil through automation
- Managing incidents and post-mortems to improve service reliability
- Mentoring engineers and supporting team development
- Collaborating with Product Owners to balance operational and development priorities

Experience
- Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer in cloud environments (GCP or AWS)
- Strong understanding of SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and toil reduction
- Proficient in scripting and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Harness, GitHub)
- Demonstrable experience working in Agile environments focused on delivering customer value, familiar with tools like Jira
- Ability to lead incident response and drive service improvements
- Strong collaboration and mentoring skills
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Azure cloud environment including connectivity, data buckets, secrets management, migration, and governance
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker, Jenkins, GitHub, and Terraform
- Knowledge of secure programming practices, secure file transfer protocols, risk remediation, and audit actions
- Background in technical operations and service engineering
