About the Role
The Council, its staff and partners were delighted in March 2023 when Ofsted judged the overall effectiveness of children’s social care services to be ‘Outstanding’ for the second time running since 2018. We have been recognised for our investment in frontline practitioners and managers, creating an environment where social workers can focus on supporting families to stay together safely when it is in children’s best interests.
Bexley offers a strong learning and development programme, with Ofsted noting “A well-trained workforce is improving the lives of children and families” in 2023. We provide strong management oversight of practice, a well-embedded practice framework enabling meaningful family-focused help, clear career progression pathways, a talent management scheme, and an environment where social work can flourish.
We believe deeply in relationship-based practice, using the ‘Signs of Safety’ approach to work respectfully and collaboratively with families. Our family engagement group FL.A.RE (Family Learning, Advocacy & Restorative Engagement) and children in care forums such as Positive Journeys, Positive Journeys Seniors, and Bexley’s Young Director support practice development and delivery. Frontline practitioners have the opportunity to learn directly from children, young people, and families.
We are committed to the growth and development of our workforce at every career stage, offering a comprehensive range of training and professional development opportunities including access to research, group and e-learning, coaching, and group supervision. Practitioners can contribute to and co-design training to enhance Continuing Professional Development.
Staff well-being is a priority, with access to weekly well-being drop-in sessions, an Employee Assistance Programme, and corporate emotional and physical well-being initiatives.
If you are looking to practice confidently as part of a stable, dedicated team making a difference for families and children, we encourage you to apply.
