About the Role
As a Speech and Language Therapist within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, you will be responsible for the assessment, intervention, and management of clients' communication abilities and eating and drinking skills within your clinical competence. You will independently organise and prioritise caseloads within Southwark, advising line management of any shortfalls or difficulties. The role involves developing and maintaining close working relationships with colleagues across health, social services, education, and not-for-profit organisations. You will liaise with staff, support workers, tutors, professional team members, and significant others regarding all aspects of client services. Acting as a source of reference and advice for this client group within the borough teams, you will coordinate the interface with other service providers to implement home programmes and contribute to person-centred planning. You will maintain client case notes in accordance with professional standards and local policies, develop training packages for communication approaches, and assess eating and drinking skills using a risk assessment model considering complex conditions, living situations, and cultural and legal issues. Additionally, you will write accessible reports and guidelines, use various software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Boardmaker, GRID 3, and Inprint, and be aware of multimedia tools such as digital cameras and audio recording devices. Other duties may be assigned by the Speech Language Therapy Manager, compatible with the grading structure and your sphere of competence.
Experience
Experience in assessing and managing communication and eating/drinking skills within clinical competence is required. Ability to independently organise and prioritise caseloads and liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams is essential.

Qualifications
Qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) is expected. Competence in using relevant software packages and multimedia tools is desirable.
