Hours
The Emergency Department operates a full shift system compliant with the European Working Time Directive. Shifts are either 9 or 10.5 hours in length. Self-rostering of an annualised rota allows flexible working and planned time off. Contribution to out of hours including nights and weekends is essential. There is no on-call commitment to the Emergency Department but rotas may be amended to cover unexpected sickness.

£65,048 per annum (in accordance with the national salary scale)

About the Role
We are seeking doctors to join our large, friendly Emergency Medicine team to contribute ideas for improving patient care. This post offers non-shop floor time, equivalent to 2 days per fortnight, allowing you to follow a special interest or enhance your CV according to your career needs and training development. It is ideal for those wishing to take time out of training before progressing into higher specialty training. Atypical, flexible, or individualised rotas are possible. The department was rated Outstanding by the CQC and prides itself on delivering excellent patient care through teamwork. Each post is initially for 6 months with the possibility of extension. These posts support doctors needing competencies in higher Emergency Medicine training and encourage work-based assessments, e-portfolio enrolment, and exam preparation. When on duty, Clinical Fellows assist Consultants in direct patient management and supervise junior medical staff. The team is hardworking, supportive, and committed to career progression.

Educational Program
Clinical Fellows have opportunities to attend specialist courses such as ATLS, ALS, and APLS, and to participate in relevant conferences within a set study leave allocation. The post holder is expected to attend and present at various educational meetings including morning handover, weekly departmental middle grade teaching, governance, operational and faculty meetings, FY2, medical student and nurse teaching, daily consultant-led ward rounds on CDU, and Hospital Grand Rounds. The department offers regular teaching sessions including exam-oriented preparation, with a strong track record of success in RCEM examinations.

Research within the Department
Our Emergency Department has an active research portfolio and encourages Clinical Fellows to engage in research activities, develop relevant skills, and pursue personal research projects.

Experience
Suitable for doctors seeking development in Emergency Medicine with competencies towards higher specialty training. Experience in direct patient management and supervising junior staff is expected during shifts.

Qualifications
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise. Appropriate postgraduate qualifications and experience consistent with ST4 level in Emergency Medicine or equivalent. Commitment to ongoing professional development and training including work-based assessments and examinations.
